Every party and event more than likely utilizes a DJ. The reason is that a DJ is full of life and they know exactly what to play in order to make sure that the party goes off without a hitch and that everyone is having fun. However, if you are new to the DJ world, just how do you go about making sure that people know you are available for business?
The first step is to let people know your work. This means that you should make a CD of things that you would play for certain occasions. You can use these as ways in which to advertise as well as spread the word about your DJ skills. For example, if you want to be the DJ for wedding receptions, then you will want to create a mixed CD of things that you would normally play for the situation, or if you want to DJ parties, you would make the mixed CD with party music on there in order to just give potential customers a taste of what you could do for them.
Secondly, you will want to network. Let other DJ's know that you are available to take those jobs that they cannot handle. You will also want to spread the word in clubs and so forth in order to make sure that they know that you are ready to work whenever they need someone. You will want to make it so that you are available to work full-time or just fill in if they need you. If you do get called in at the last minute, be sure to do the gig because it lets others know that you are serious about being a professional DJ. Getting your foot into the door will open up more doors to you in the future. You should also consider going to your local radio station and seeing if perhaps they would give you a shot of being a DJ for them, you may not get the best radio slot time, however, experience is experience.
You will also want to make business cards that you can pass out to those that know others you may be in the market for a DJ, as well as ways in which you can add to announcement boards in places that you may find customers. Places such as the message boards located on college campuses or in stores that sell party related gear. Basically hit any place in which potential customers could see your business card.
You should also utilize the Internet to make sure that you are known. You can do this through many of the social network sites that allow for others to friend you. For those that are technology savvy they can even post some of the work onto the site in order for potential customers to hear a snippet of what you can do. This is a great way for those that are in the process of finding a DJ to find you.
